Hey, welcome to DIY DJ. This blog will hopefully be a compilation of my experience as a DJ for one night. No, I'm not a professional, nor would I want to be after doing this, but along the way, I found easy ways to look like you've got all the best equipment when really you spent around $100.

My aunt recently had a wedding this past September and I volunteered to be the entertainment for the reception. My reasons behind this were simple: I didn't want sucky music and a sucky DJ for this special night. I've had horrible experiences at past weddings seeing how the DJ and the music were just oh so lame and it made me want to run out screaming.

Because I'm cheap, I didn't believe in spending outrageous amounts on DJ equipment I was only going to use once. So I searched the web, read books, watched movies and even attended some weddings in order to get the full idea of what a DJ was supposed to be.

In the end, I learned no matter how much research and time you put into it, it's never going to be enough for the actual event. I didn't plan on guests requesting freaky deeky songs, my speakers not being loud enough or the fact that Sunday weddings mean no partay music. I definitely learned a few lessons from this event, one of them being to never volunteer to be a DJ.

But the one good thing I got out of it was that you really don't have to hire a DJ for every event. Whether it be a bridal shower, anniversary, birthday or just weekend get-together, you can freaking do it! Hook up your ipod shuffle, make a 250 song mp3 disc, or find some vintage records. The entertainment possibilities are endless!
